Transition- Season of Blessing

Noun / the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.

I’ve been speaking with many people who feel like they are in transition. The sense of change is pervasive, touching not only individuals but also the very fabric of our society. Certainly, our nation of Kenya is in transition. The recent protests have affected us profoundly, altering our perceptions and compelling us to confront a new reality. We find ourselves in a state of flux, feeling formless and undefined. We are acutely aware that we are no longer who we used to be, yet we are uncertain about whom we are becoming. This ambiguity is unsettling.

How do we stay centered and focused on the future amidst the uncertainty of transition? Despite the current uncertainties, it is crucial to remember that there will be a future. Navigating this period of change requires a delicate balance of resilience, adaptability, and hope. Here are some ways that I have used to help me through the many transitions that I’ve been through:

Embrace Change: transition is an opportunity for renewal. It is a chance to shed outdated practices and beliefs and to embrace new ways of thinking and being Accept that change is a natural part of life. What beliefs are being challenged in me? Whom can I become now? Instead of resisting it, try to see it as an opportunity for growth and learning.

Focus on the Present:  Be willing to let go of the past. What got you here may not get you to where you’re going. It’s important to stay present. Focusing too much on the unknown future can also lead to anxiety. Instead, concentrate on what you can do today. This could mean cleaning out your inbox or updating your CV or LinkedIn profile. Or for me just cleaning out my wardrobe. Do that one thing that moves you forward.

Stay Grounded: Find practices that help you stay grounded. This could be through meditation, exercise, or spending time in nature. Staying connected to your body and your surroundings can provide a sense of stability. For me this journaling, meditating, praying and listening to music- of every language and genre!

Seek Support: Transitions can be challenging to navigate alone. Seek support from a coach, friends, family, or professional counselors. Sharing your experiences and feelings can provide comfort and perspective.

Stay in Faith. Have faith that you’ll get to the other side better. I’ve found that every time I was about to get to my next level of being/success, God took me through a period of ambiguity. I had to trust that my steps are divinely ordered. I am still trusting. One step at a time.

While the path may be uncertain, it’s important to stay focused, resilient, and engaged. I promise you there will be a future.

How we navigate our transitions today will shape the tomorrow we step into.
